National Public Health Week, April 4 - 10

For more than a decade communities across the country have celebrated National Public Health Week (NPHW) each April by highlighting public health achievements and raising awareness of issues important to improving the public’s health. This year we continue to envision our community as healthier by addressing the importance of injury and violence prevention through the theme “Safety is No Accident: Live Injury-free.” Join us as we celebrate Public Health Week from April 4th – 10th, as we work toward creating a safer and healthier West Allis. This year, during Public Health Week, Mayor Dan Devine will be signing a Public Health Week Proclamation officially making it Public Health Week in West Allis. The West Allis Health Department will celebrate by providing free power failure flashlights to West Allis-West Milwaukee residents. To pick up your flashlight come to the West Allis Health Department, 7120 West National Avenue, Monday through Friday, April 4th - 8th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use this flashlight to stay safe. A limited number of flashlights are available. One flashlight will be given per family while quantities last. For more information on Public Health Week and West Allis Health Department services, call (414) 302-8600.

2011 Spring Yard Waste Collection

Sunday, April 10, through Sunday, April 24. Please follow these guidelines: Place materials in the curb-line following the same procedures normally utilized during the fall collection period. Ddo not place materials in the street prior to April 10 or after April 24. Do not mix brush into the yard waste piles (placing brush in the street is illegal and subjects the property owner to a fine--property owners can be held liable for any personal or vehicular damage occurring as a result of brush placed in the street). Yard waste materials may also be taken to a drop-off center or composted on-site. Remove pots and soil from potted plants before placing in the curb-line. Thank you.
